Transition to Sixth Grade

Our students savor and we celebrate rites of passage during our students' final year at PMFS. Fifth Graders take leadership roles as the oldest on campus. They reflect on the skills and confidence they have gained and how to apply them, and use their voices in new environments.

Transitions are an important part of life, though bittersweet. PMFS is committed to facilitating a smooth transition for our Fifth Graders and their families as they prepare to move to Sixth Grade. Whether you consider an independent or public school for your child after Plymouth, we will consult and guide you through the multi-faceted process. While students celebrate, we help plan.

• Individual parent meetings to advise and assist families in determining the best fit for student needs and family culture
• Group meetings to discuss process, timelines, and forms at independent and public schools
• Independent school panel at PMFS
• Teacher recommendations
• ISEE test, student preparation and hosting at PMFS 
• Regular check-ins throughout the year with teachers and admin

• Field Day -- where 5th graders lead cross-grade teams in friendly Maroon vs. Grey competition
• 5th Grade Production -- where students write, produce, and eventually perform a play, musical, or skits
• Soon-to-be-Alumni Luncheon -- where 5th graders look into life after Plymouth with advice from current 12th graders.
• Egg Drop -- where students explore their engineering abilities in protecting an egg from a 2-story fall
• 5th Grade vs. Faculty Kickball Game -- an annual event for the whole school... we will beat them one of these years
• Graduation  -- a time to reflect with speeches by each graduate and celebrate with the whole community
