We provide a creative and challenging academic program supported by the Quaker belief that there is that of God in everyone. From age 3 through 6th grade, PMFS builds and affirms a community grounded in cultural competency and social responsibility.
Our core values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship (SPICES) are woven into the educational and cultural fabric of who we are and what we do.
Students collaborate with peers and teachers, using inquiry and reflection to solidify understanding and prepare them for success as lifelong learners.
Students develop a solid sense of self and social responsibility through connecting and communicating with others, and persevering to solve problems and resolve conflict collaboratively.
Join us and learn about the PMFS community, curriculum, and traditions; hear from our Head of School, faculty and parents. A full campus tour is included, while students are here in session.
Last Friday third graders hosted the first International Luncheon since 2019; the culmination of a month-long multi-part family unit study. In school, students researched a place to which they had a family connection, recording what they learned about different topics in a “passport” to that place. At home, third graders talked to their relatives to learn more about their family traditions and history. Through these conversations, each student captured a family story. We celebrated their hard work at Friday’s International Luncheon. Each third grader brought a special food to share at the luncheon. We enjoyed a delicious meal with parents and other family members while listening to each third grader read their powerful family story. Together these stories represented beautiful, diverse families. We are so proud of these brave third graders!
Students in grades First through Sixth are finishing a soccer unit in Physical Education class. The students in the younger grades are working on strengthening their soccer skills while the students in the older grades are ending the unit implementing those previously learned skills into game play. We were fortunate to have grades Four, Five and Six join together for culminating round robin tournament which was some friendly competition enjoyed by all!
On Wednesday, students in 5th grade took a “wild walk” through the woods, scribbling notes along the way about sensory details. Upon return, they wrote about the experience, focusing on vibrant, “wild” vocabulary. As they get ready to dive into a personal narrative writing unit next week, this kind of activity prepares them to relive their story in detail rather than just factually recounting it.
Cross grade connections! Second graders wrapped up a unit on the calendar with a focus on the days of the week. We read a book incorporating the days and took our learning down the path to Kindergarten. The Second graders read to each Kindergarten class and loved showing how much they could read in Spanish.
