Science Teacher, Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 6

PMFS seeks a part-time (80% FTE) Science Teacher for our Pre-K (ages 3 - 4) through 6th Grade students. The Science Teacher is a member of the Specials team. 

The Science Teacher is an enthusiastic educator with the ability to make complex topics accessible and engaging for young learners by delivering an active, integrated curriculum. They have experience planning and delivering curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for each grade-level and can differentiate teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and interests of all students. By incorporating creativity and flexibility in designing and adapting science curriculum and activities, the Science Teacher fosters a culture of curiosity, inquiry and experimentation that boosts students’ interest in science and the natural world through hands-on exploration and experiential learning. They facilitate active learning through experiments, investigations, projects, and real-world applications in alignment with relevant science standards and the school’s educational philosophy.

The Science Teacher builds a safe and trusting learning environment and cultivates a classroom culture where all students see themselves as capable scientists. They work closely with PMFS colleagues in a joyful, adaptive community, facilitating social emotional learning and supporting a schoolwide culture of belonging.  

The ideal candidate is a passionate, flexible educator who has experience teaching and working with elementary school aged children; the ability to work with students ages 3-11; and a keen understanding of the developmental needs of a range of students. Enthusiasm for hands-on science, working with children and a love of the outdoors is critical to the position. A strong alignment with Quaker Testimonies and progressive education—in philosophy and teaching practice-- is expected. We actively seek candidates who reflect the rich diversity of our school community. 
Part Time, Salaried: The position includes four (4) days per week in the classroom (7:45am-3:30pm), as well as recess duties, faculty meetings and additional time outside of this schedule for school community events. The position includes benefits.

Qualifications: a Bachelor’s degree in education and/or science or a related field. Applicants are expected to have a minimum of 3 years teaching elementary-aged children. A qualified candidate has demonstrated mastery of basic knowledge and skills required for science instruction, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong organizational and classroom management skills.
