Assistant Teacher – Lower Elementary - 26-27 SY

Part-Time, Salaried Position: Plymouth Meeting Friends School is seeking Assistant Teachers for the 2026–2027 school year to support our elementary classrooms. Assistant Teachers work closely with lead teachers to help foster students’ academic, social, and emotional growth in a dynamic, student-centered learning environment.

The position includes five mornings per week in the classroom (7:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m.), as well as recess duties and occasional time outside of this schedule for field trips, parent-teacher conferences, and full professional development days.

Position Description:
Assistant Teachers are a vital part of the Plymouth Meeting Friends School faculty. They serve as an important part of a teaching team and support lead teachers in all academic endeavors. At PMFS, Assistant Teachers work directly with students across subject areas and help create a collaborative, engaging classroom environment.
Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with lead teachers to deliver a highly interactive and integrated academic program
  • Supporting instruction in literacy, math, science, social studies, and other subject areas
  • Leading small group lessons, literature groups, and learning activities
  • Assisting with lesson planning, curriculum implementation, and classroom preparation
  • Supporting formal and informal student assessments
  • Co-leading learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Supporting students’ social-emotional development and helping students navigate academic and social challenges
  • Helping maintain a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
PMFS Assistant Teachers support an evolving social and experiential academic curriculum and regularly confer with students regarding academic and social growth. The ideal candidate demonstrates enthusiasm for working with elementary-aged students and has experience supporting children with effective communication and conflict resolution strategies. Experience with readers’ and writers’ workshops, inquiry-based learning approaches, and supporting diverse learning styles is highly valued.

Successful candidates are well-versed in current research, trends, and best practices in elementary education and are excited to contribute to a creative, dynamic, values-based learning community.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in elementary education, early childhood education, special education, or a related field)
  • At least one year of professional teaching experience preferred
  • Familiarity with the use and integration of technology in the classroom
  • Strong alignment with Quaker testimonies and progressive education philosophy and practice
  • Commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive school community
