Assistant Teacher– Pre-Kindergarten (3 & 4 year olds) - 26-27 SY

Full Time, Salaried: The position includes five full days per week in the classroom (7:45 am-3:30pm), as well as recess duties, faculty meetings and additional time outside of this schedule for parent teacher conferences. The position includes benefits.  
 
Position Description: Assistant teachers are a vital part of the Plymouth Meeting Friends School faculty. They serve as an important part of a two-person teaching team and support the lead teacher in all academic endeavors. At PMFS, assistant teachers work directly with students in all subject areas; they collaborate with lead teachers to deliver a highly interactive, integrated program. Assistant Teachers are committed to and interested in working in a creative, dynamic, values-based learning community. 

The Pre-Kindergarten Assistant Teacher supports and engages in the creation and execution of the preschool program grounded in play with academic intention. They have experience and comfort with social-emotional community-building strategies and techniques, as well as with supporting preschool-aged children in using tools for effective communication and conflict resolution. 

The ideal candidate is joyful about teaching and working with pre-school age children and demonstrates eagerness and passion for the developmental stages of early childhood. Essential competencies include familiarity with current research, trends, and best practices in progressive early childhood education; experience with using workshop and inquiry approaches to learning; and supporting diverse learning styles. 

Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or early elementary education is required. Applicants are expected to have at least one year of preschool classroom experience. Facility with usage and integration of technology are required. A strong alignment with Quaker testimonies and progressive education—in philosophy and teaching practice-- is expected.
