Cooking and Baking
The kindergarten cooking program gives students an opportunity for hands-on application of many different skills, as well as the chance to expand their palates! Cooking and baking teach kindergartners about measuring and the different kinds and sizes of cups and utensils.  Children learn how to follow a recipe, how to measure and use ingredients, and also to try foods they might not want to try or think they may not like.  Kindergarten tries out many recipes.  We make alphabet soup, monkey bread, green spaghetti, jack-o'-lantern quesadillas, and noodle soup.  At the end of the year we make fruit salad using knives to chop the fruit.  We always welcome guest chefs into our classroom to share their own love of cooking with the class, creating valuable home-school connections, and introducing students to the rich diversity of our classroom.
