PMFS Weekly Announcements, May 21-28, 2010
Farewell

Keisha Hirlinger, our music teacher for children in pre-k through primary, will be leaving us at the end of this year. In the fall Keisha will begin a two-year Master’s program in Music Education at Teachers College of Columbia University. This is a wonderful opportunity for Keisha.

We will miss her and all the joie de vivre, percussion experiences, and love of music Keisha has shared with our students and all of us. We truly wish her a “fare well.” Since Philadelphia is Keisha’s hometown, we know PMFS will stay connected to her as she goes through her upcoming professional endeavors.

Art Show News

The upcoming art show for grades 4, 5, and 6 will be held from Tuesday, June 1 to Monday, June 7. It will be open during school hours, 8am – 3:15pm, and during the Strawberry Festival, 12pm -  2pm, in the Corson Lobby.
Please mark your calendars and come to see this very exciting show.

Website News

Multimedia Gallery: A new website feature, the Multimedia Gallery, has been launched! Consider this your one-stop-shopping area for slideshows of PMFS events, happenings, and programmatic highlights. We’ve posted a handful of slideshows right now and expect to add more soon. Next year we plan to connect you to the slideshows regularly through the weekly e-announcements. Click here to view the Gallery.

2010-2011 Calendar: The 2010-2011 calendar, in list format, is now available on the website. This has been created for parents, grandparents, and other members of the community who prefer an overview of the year in a list (rather than the monthly view you get from the homepage). The 2010-2011 calendar is located in the Parents section of the website. Click here for  the 2010-2011 calendar to date. Have parents, grandparents and in-laws asking you about next year’s calendar? Send them the link to the online version!

Strawberry Festival Details and PTO News: Details about the 2010 Strawberry Festival are now on the website, accessible directly from the homepage button. Go to the homepage and select the “Strawberry Festival” button or click here. Want to volunteer for Strawberry Festival? Click here to connect to PTO News and information about volunteering.

Community Update

As many of you know, Tom Hoopes, parent to Joseph (Heidi’s primary) and Jacob (3rd grade), and member of School Committee, has been ill. While still in the hospital, Tom is responding to treatment for a systemic strep infection. We have been assured by medical personnel that possible contagion in our school is not a concern. Of course anytime you are concerned about a sore throat, you can contact your health care provider for further guidance.

Tom is clerk of the search committee for our next head of school. Karen Ort, clerk of School Committee, and other School Committee members are supporting Tom in his work as he recovers.

Tom has been improving steadily every day and the family is hopeful that he will be home this weekend. We ask that you hold all the Hoopes family in the light as Tom continues to recover. Plymouth families interested in communicating or visiting with Tom should contact his wife Beth at 484-802-7440. Many thanks to all those who have already provided support to the Hoopes family.

The Annual Phon-a-Thon is Coming

The Annual Parent Phon-a-thon for
the Plymouth Meeting Friends School Annual Fund is
May 24- 28, 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Why support The Annual Fund?
If you were to compare Plymouth Meeting Friends School family to your own family, then your annual fund donation helps pay the equivalent of our household expenses. More than just the icing on the cake, the annual fund serves as our daily lifeline, providing necessities that prepare our students for life today and in the future.

We use your contributions to offer field trips, maintain the school facilities and property, purchase art and science materials, classroom computers, financial aid, sports equipment, and educational materials, as well as pay for faculty salaries and professional development. The Annual Fund keeps tuition down and ensures that a Plymouth education continues to be accessible to an economically diverse population.

Do I have to pay immediately? Pledge payments are due by July 31, 2010, the end of the PMFS fiscal year. You can make a gift now or pay your pledge over time, as best fits your specific needs, with the total due by that date. PMFS also accepts AMEX, Visa, or Master Card, if you want to earn airline miles or reward points. Pledge online with your credit card by clicking  here.

Don’t want to get a call? Simply make your contribution or pledge by Monday, May 24. You can send it to the office in an envelope labeled “Development/Annual Fund,” or email Susannah Hunter at susannahh@pmfs1780.org or call the development office at (610) 828-2407.
