Turnoff Week is April 19-25 this year. PMFS, together with thousands of other schools and communities nationwide, is again participating in this week-long event. Turnoff Week is about taking a healthy break from TV --and other screen-related activities-- to focus on actions that are more academically, socially, and physically rewarding. We encourage your whole family to participate by turning off your television set(s) and other screens for the entire week.
This event is important in reducing overall screen-time. Upon high school graduation, the average student has spent more time watching television than in the classroom! Children who watch little or no TV tend to have higher grades, read more books and exercise more regularly. For more information, contact the organizers of the event, Center for SCREEN-TIME Awareness, at (202) 333-9220 or at www.screentime.org. This organization is supported by groups including the American Academy of Pediatrics, National Education Association, and Reading is Fundamental.
We ask for your support in these efforts: please help your child complete the enclosed Turnoff Week form if he/she wants to participate and consider participating with your kids. At the end-of the week, participating children will receive a certificate from PMFS.
