Fifth grade helps rainforest
2009 Rainforest Sale Helps Preserve Acreage

The 2009 Rainforest Sale, organized and run by this year's fifth grade class, was a resounding success. Fifth grade students raised $475 for the Nature Conservancy's "Adopt-an-Acre" program. A little math reveals that this amount translates into the highest amount raised per student in the past five years, and the second highest amount per student since 1997-1998!

The funds will help preserve rainforest acreage. For the past two years, PMFS rainforest sale proceeds have helped save land in Costa Rica.

Students raise the money for the Nature Conservancy through the sale of baked goods and many handmade items. Every year there is something new and different. This year shoppers could find bars of handmade soap and t-shirt bags!

The annual fifth grade Rainforest Sale is a service component of the fifth grade science curriculum and is just one of many ways PMFS students reach out to communities beyond the walls of our small Quaker school.
