The PMFS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is comprised of the entire school community: parents, faculty and staff. The purpose of the PTO is to help create a positive atmosphere for learning by providing financial assistance and by organizing community-building functions for parents and students.
One of the most significant ways PTO achieves these goals is through the Food Program. Begun a number of years ago as a pizza-one-day-per-week program, the Food Program has grown to the point where lunch entrees and side dishes are offered five days a week for families who choose to participate. Proceeds are used to benefit multiple school programs and activities. Lunches are catered by outside vendors and sorted by volunteers for distribution to each classroom. A fixed menu is set for each food cycle with different food options for each weekday. Families are welcome to order lunches as many days of the week as they choose with no minimum order.
The Food Program is run entirely by parent volunteers with many ways to help. Sorting and distributing lunches takes about 30-45 minutes once every five to six weeks. Day captains set the schedules at the beginning of each cycle and coordinate communication as the cycle progresses. Checking the kitchen at the end of the day takes about 10 minutes, one day per week. Some tasks take place at school during the day, others can be done from home. A short training program which includes a general overview of the delivery and sorting process and a review of health department requirements will be held at the beginning of the school year.
Please consider how you might help with the food program.
