At Plymouth Meeting Friends School, field trips and overnights take students beyond the walls of our Quaker campus and provide exciting opportunities for learning about our local, regional, and global communities. Each class goes on a number of off-campus trips each year. These trips are carefully chosen to support the various curricula as well as to simply have fun. Trips range from a morning visit to a local library or historical site, to a full day journey to Ellis Island. Starting in first grade (primary), each class takes an overnight journey as well. The first and second grades go on a camping trip while the third grade ventures to a biological consortium in Virginia called Wallops Island. The older grades, fourth, fifth, and sixth, continue this tradition with three far-reaching, multi-night adventures. The fourth grade studies the history of the United States throughout the year and takes a four-day excursion to Washington D.C. in April. The fifth grade is involved in an exchange program with a school in Mexico and takes a two-week visit there in February. Their "buddies" visit PMFS in May. The sixth grade travels to the Chesapeake Bay twice, fall and spring, for overnights of skill and group building at the Echo Hill Outdoor School.
