FINANCIAL AID

Plymouth Meeting Friends School’s financial aid program is designed to enhance the school's mission of providing a Quaker education to a diverse student body.  PMFS values families' commitment to the education it provides and appreciates the sacrifices families make to be part of an independent school community.

Each application for aid is treated individually and granted appropriate consideration by the Financial Aid Committee separately from the admission process.  All financial aid files and information are kept strictly confidential, and PMFS trusts that families receiving aid will do the same with their award.

Aid is provided to families in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade on the basis of need, i.e., the difference between the family's resources and tuition expenses.  In 2010-2011 43% of PMFS families received some form of support, whith grants ranging from several hundred dollars to as much as half the tuition.

Applications for financial aid will be considered by the Financial Aid Committee only after an application for admission has been submitted.  There are no income cut-offs, high or low, required for consideration of an application.  The Financial Aid Committee takes into consideration a family's resources based on the information provided through the Parents' Financial Statement (NAIS) and tax documents.  Resources include, but are not limited to, family income, home equity, investments, number of children in tuition-charging schools, other real estate ownership including second homes, and consumer debt.

All grants are for one year and families are required to re-apply each year.  While students are at PMFS, we make a commitment to support them at a consistent level, provided demonstrated need continues.

Tuition assistance is granted without consideration to gender, race, color, religious creed, sexual orientation, or national origin.

Plymouth Meeting Friends School uses the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) to help assess need. The SSS is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and is administered by the Educational Testing Service. Families should request complete instructions for applying to PMFS for financial aid during their admission interview. We can provide you with an SSS application form at that time. You may also fill in the SSS form on-line by accessing it through this link: www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.

Families applying for aid for the 2012-2013 school year must:

Submit the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS) to SSS by January 27.

Submit to the PMFS Financial Aid Committee by February 17:
A copy of your 2010 IRS form 1040 and all accompanying attachments and schedules*
A copy of your 2011 IRS form 1040 and all accompanying attachments and schedules*

*If parents are not living in one household or are unmarried, they must each submit the
required forms separately.

Families are also encouraged to submit a letter explaining any circumstances that
might be helpful to the Financial Aid Committee in making its decision.

After February 17, applications will be considered only if funds are available.
